In the 18th century, false attributions tended to enrich the catalog of renowned masters... This is the case of a Salve Regina attributed to Pergolesi and the sublime Pianto di Maria, long considered to be from the pen of Handel, which has been attributed to its author, Giovanni Battista Ferrandini. But did these false attributions not contribute to ensuring these works the posterity they so deserved? The libretto of the Pianto di Maria presents us with the entire scene of the Passion of Christ, but here, the central character is the Virgin Mary, a weeping mother before the drama unfolding before her eyes. It is a church sonata by Vivaldi that will serve as the opening to this lamentation of the Virgin Mary.
