Eighteenth-century Scotland was a privileged site of fusion between classical writing and the traditional repertoire. Through songs, tunes to dance to or that could be varied almost infinitely, the local composers in fact brought to fruition a very delicious dialogue between the marvellous spontaneity of folk music and the extraordinary refinement of baroque harmonies. A surprising mixture!
