Founded in 1962 by Pierre Bartholomée and directed since 1997 by Jean-Paul Dessy, Musiques Nouvelles is an ensemble resolutely focused on creation. Based in Mons, in residence at Arsonic (Mars - Mons arts de la scène), it brings together a dozen virtuoso and committed musicians, in the service of the most audacious contemporary music. Constantly exploring new artistic territories, Musiques Nouvelles develops protean projects mixing music, dance, cinema, theater, poetry, plastic arts or spirituality. Through its collaborations and creations, the ensemble affirms its vocation: to support creation in Wallonia and Brussels, while opening to international stages. Much of the ensemble’s work is available on its YouTube channel, a veritable showcase for its commitment to the music of today, which is lively, inventive and free.
The ensemble Musiques Nouvelles was founded in 1962 on the initiative of conductor and composer Pierre Bartholomée with a view to enriching and promoting new compositions in all their diversity. The ensemble consists of a core made up of a dozen dedicated musicians chosen for their great virtuosity and their fervent commitment to serving new musics in Wallonia and Brussels as well as on the international stage. Jean-Paul Dessy has been the ensemble’s artistic director since 1997. Under his direction, Musiques Nouvelles has continued to deploy its creative force and has consistently reinvented itself through unusual and protean projects arising from fruitful artistic encounters. These encounters cut across borders and sometimes across disciplines, combining music, dance, cinema, opera, theatre, poetry, spirituality and the visual arts.
