Born in Abbeville in 1957, French conductor Hervé Niquet trained as a pianist, harpsichordist, organist, singer, composer and conductor. Passionate about Baroque music, he seeks to rediscover the composers' original intentions. After a spell at the Paris Opéra and then with Les Arts Florissants, in 1987 he founded Le Concert Spirituel, dedicated to the French Baroque repertoire. Hethen extended his activities to Romantic opera and the forgotten French repertoire, notably with the Palazzetto Bru Zane. He conducts works by Charpentier, Lully, Rameau, Handel, Halévy, Boismortier and Offenbach, sometimes in collaboration with Shirley and Dino. He performs on the major European stages (Versailles, La Monnaie, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, etc.),sometimes combining conducting, singing, theatre and dance. In 2020-21, he will conduct Fauré, Mendelssohn, Handel and Desmarest, while continuing to rediscover rare works with the Concert Spirituel.
