Der Freischütz, an iconic romantic opera by Carl Maria von Weber, was created at the Königliches Schauspielhaus in Berlin on June 18, 1821. This major work marks a turning point in the history of German opera, combining popular legends, supernatural atmospheres and musical innovations. The arrangement by Karl Flachs, made around 1822, transposes the key moments of the opera for an ensemble of winds, offering an adaptation faithful to the spirit of Weber and allowing an intimate rediscovery of the work. The Wolf Ensemble, specialized in interpretation on historical instruments, recreates this adaptation with authenticity and energy, plunging the audience into the romantic universe of Weber. Until now, this arrangement for winds has never been recorded and has probably never been reinterpreted on historical instruments. It is now being recorded by Ensemble Wolf for the Ricercar label, which is scheduled to be released in 2026.
