At a time when the circulation of sheet music was free and copyright was almost non-existent, some works were falsely attributed. They often enriched the catalog of famous masters. This is the case with the Salve Regina in G minor attributed to Pergolesi, preserved at the British Library among other 18th-century antiphons, and the Pianto di Maria by Giovanni Battista Ferrandini, which was long donated to Handel. Composed in 1739 for the Munich court, this cantata places the Virgin Mary at the center of the Passion, offering rare theatricality and emotion. The number of its copies, preserved to the present day, shows that it enjoyed a lasting and well-deserved success. Before giving way to this lament of the Virgin Mary, the concert will feature instrumental music by Corelli and Handel.
