Brussels Philharmonic, Vlaams Radio Koor, Joanna Carneiro

Closing concert of the Musiq3 Brussels Festival

Closing concert of the Musiq3 Brussels Festival, this evening brings together the faithful Brussels Philharmonic and the Vlaams Radio Koor under the baton of the Portuguese conductor Joana Carneiro, Des Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, a humanist prayer with deeply modern energy, to the Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, a brilliant manifesto of the mixture between scholarly music and jazz, to the luminous writing and An introspective by Eric Whitacre, this program celebrates an America born from the intersection of cultures. At a time when the United States, like so many other countries, is affected by identity withdrawal and political tension, these works remind us that they were also a place of refuge for artists from elsewhere. The music strongly affirms that other paths remain possible: those of openness, dialogue and an art free of borders.
