Split between deep melancholy and intoxicating virtuosity, gypsy music has fascinated many composers, not least Franz Liszt, another itinerant musician and traveller. Roby Lakatos embodies this Hungarian and Gypsy heritage today, as he is descended from the famous violinist Liszt once heard. Accompanied by his ensemble, he is joined by another great virtuoso and improviser, the pianist Alexander Gurning, to bring to life this encounter between classical and gypsy, written music and oral tradition. An evening not to be missed!
